Manos Unidas newest program, Ayllu Hogar, has been built on the principle of relationship-based support and trust-building with the community. The promotora model of community outreach has a long history of success in the Latino community. The model prioritizes using people from the community we serve to connect and share important information. Our promotoras have lived experience similar to the Latino families we hope to reach. Some are parents of children with disabilities or neurological disorders, others have experienced many of the barriers the Latino community faces in accessing on-time interventions for their children with disabilities or developmental delays. We are proud of our bilingual/bicultural team that will serve as the human -centered bridge between families and educational and medical systems.
